Patient to be Featured on ESPNU

April 03, 2009

AUGUSTA, GA – Connor McKemey, a 14-year-old patient in the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, will be featured on ESPNU during the Princeton vs. Syracuse lacrosse game April 4 at 2:30 p.m. The Big City Classic game will be played at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

The ESPNU commentators plan to discuss the “Bear Down” stickers on the Princeton helmets, worn in honor of Connor, who is called Bear on the South Charlotte Cyclones Lacrosse team. When word reached the McKemey family about the game there was one problem. The television in Connor’s room did not have a converter box to view the ESPNU digital channel. With a call to Knology, the problem was resolved quickly, so Connor can enjoy the game as it is being broadcast live.

Connor, from Tega Cay, SC, was admitted to the Burn Center Dec. 21 after sustaining second and third degree burns on 87 percent of his body from an outdoor fireplace explosion. Dr. Fred Mullins, Connor’s physician, said Connor is in fair condition and will be discharged Tuesday to a rehab center in Charlotte.
