Doctors Hospital Appoints New CEO

Augusta, GA - Doctors Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Welch as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Welch brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience to this role, most recently as the Chief Executive Officer of HCA’s Medical Center of Lewisville in Lewisville, TX. Prior to that he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Las Colinas Medical Center in Irving, TX.
Welch obtained his Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the Medical College of Virginia and Bachelor’s Degree of Science from Furman University. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“We are pleased to have Doug join Doctors Hospital. I believe his experience and drive will be tremendous assets to both Doctors Hospital and the Augusta area,” said Michael Joyce, President of HCA’s North Florida Division.
Welch’s first day at Doctors Hospital will be October 1st. Joining him to establish their home in Augusta will be his wife, Amanda, and their son, Ben.
“I can’t express how much my family and I look forward to this new adventure,” said Welch. “Doctors Hospital is one of the best in the region and I look forward to working with the physicians, employees, volunteers to continue Doctors tradition of providing outstanding patient care and serving its community. I’m eager to get settled in Augusta and become a part of the hospital family as well as the Augusta community.”
Welch has always been an active member in the community. He currently serves on the Executive Committee as the Board Development Chair for the HCA Hope Fund and is the Chair-Elect of the Dallas Ft. Worth Hospital Council. He is Treasurer of Christian Community Action, a non-denominational ministry that feeds, shelters, educates and trains families in need, and has served on multiple Chambers of Commerce Boards.
