Augusta, GA - Doctors Hospital is proud to announce that it was named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures today by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. This is the third year in a row Doctors Hospital has received this honor.Doctors Hospital is proud to join 109 other HCA Hospitals that made the list of 1,099, which is one-third of all The Joint Commission hospitals reporting core measure performance data for 2012. There are 55 HCA hospitals that have been Top Performers all three years of the program’s existence, and 20 HCA hospitals are first-time Top Performers.
“This distinction by The Joint Commission is significant because the measures they use to determine Top Performers are based on scientific evidence about practices that lead to better patient outcomes,” said Dr. Jonathan B. Perlin, HCA’s Chief Medical Officer and President of the Company’s Clinical and Physician Services Group. “We are pleased that 80 percent of our hospitals have been recognized for their clinical excellence and are listed among the top U.S. hospitals.”
Hospitals on The Joint Commission’s list met the following criteria: First, each hospital achieved performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability data for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, each hospital also met a 95 percent performance threshold for every accountability measure for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, excluding measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.Doctors Hospital was recognized for achieving these thresholds for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Today, the public expects transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals where they receive care, and The Joint Commission is shining a light on the top performing hospitals such as Doctors Hospital that have achieved excellence on a number of vital measures of quality of care,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president, The Joint Commission. “We understand what matters most to patients at Doctors Hospital – safe, effective care. Doctors Hospital has made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes.
