November 02, 2012

Annette RepkoAugusta, GA – The March of Dimes Georgia Chapter has announced the finalists of the annual March of Dimes Nurse of the Year.  Doctors Hospital is proud to announce that Annette Repko, RNC, BSN, Director of Women’s Services, has been named a finalist.

“I am honored and humbled to even be considered as a finalist for such a prestigious award,” says Repko, “this means a lot to me.”

The Nurse of the Year Awards is a state-wide event that recognizes exceptional nurses, creates awareness of professional excellence and promotes the future of the nursing profession, while helping to advance the mission of the March of Dimes.

The Nurse of the Year selection committee reviewed over 750 nominations across 16 categories ranging from Critical Care to Women’s Health. More than 350 finalists emerged, all representing the March of Dimes vision for a healthier, stronger generation of babies and families.

“Annette and her staff work hard to help women understand the importance of both mother and baby remaining healthy throughout pregnancy.   This nomination shows that her efforts are being recognized and we are all very proud of her for that,” says Karen Smith, Chief Nursing Officer at Doctors Hospital.

To qualify for these awards, registered nurses, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners and licensed practical nurses in the state of Georgia are nominated for their work in any medical field or specialty.  Anyone can nominate these worthy individuals – patients, friends, co-workers and health professionals.  Nominees fill out finalist applications and once these are submitted, a volunteer committee conducts a peer review of blinded applications and chooses winners in 16 categories.  Categories are:  Advanced Practice; Behavioral Health; Critical Care; Education; Emergency Care; General Medical; Hospice, Home Health, Palliative Care, Long Term Acute Care; Informatics, Research and Evidence Based Practice; NICU; Nursing Administration; Oncology; Pediatric; Public Health; Rising Star; Surgical Services; and Women’s Health.

Winners will be announced at the 3rd Annual Nurse of the Year Awards gala and dinner on Saturday, November 17, 2012.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
