Local Volunteers Honored During National Volunteer Week

April 13, 2011

Augusta, GA – They are some of the first people you see when you walk into Doctors Hospital and this week all of its volunteers will be recognized for doing more than just flashing a smile.

Wednesday, April 13th from 12pm – 1pm, at Augusta’s Doubletree Hotel, nearly one hundred volunteers will be the guests at a special luncheon.  This year’s theme is “Celebrating People in Action,” honoring individuals who take action and solve significant problems in their communities.

In the past year, more than 45,700 hours were volunteered at Doctors Hospital by those in the community.  The total number of hospital volunteers, to include Guild members, Healthcare Science and Technology hours, and junior volunteers, amounts to more than 500.

National Volunteer Week is celebrated all across the country, celebrating ordinary people doing to extraordinary things to improve communities across the nation.  The week was established by President Richard Nixon in 1974.
