Types of Cancer
While cancer can occur in different areas of the body, each type is characterized by an uncontrolled, abnormal growth of cells. Some cancers form tumors while others circulate in the blood. A tumor can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). After cancer is detected, your doctor will perform additional tests to accurately diagnose its stage and the type of treatment that will be most effective.
