(Augusta, GA) –   People deciding if weight-loss surgery is right for them now have the option of attending a free Saturday class to learn more about laparoscopic adjustable gastric lap banding surgery.

Some people can shed five, ten, 15 pounds with exercise, diet and determination. But millions of Americans need to lose 100 pounds for more. Thousands of those people live in Georgia, which is ranked in the top 15 states with the highest number of adult obese residents.

Many people with 100 pounds or more to lose have repeatedly tried diet and exercise with no success. For them, gastric lap banding surgery, partnered with diet and exercise may be a solution. “Being obese is a health risk for many diseases, including heart disease and diabetes, but it can also impact a person’s confidence and their quality of life,” says Dr. Christopher Gates, Medical Director of the Healthy Living Center at Doctors Hospital.

The Healthy Living Center at Doctors Hospital will continue to offer its “The Weight is Over,” a free seminar, at 6 p.m. monthly on the third Thursday. However, it will also offer Saturday classes. The first Saturday class is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 6. An additional Saturday class will be hosted on May 8 at 10 a.m. Future dates for Saturday classes will be added later. All of the classes will be at the h2u Building, Medical Office Building 3, at 1305 Interstate Parkway, on the Doctors Hospital campus. Registration is encouraged, but not required. To register, call 706-651-5483.
