Early diagnosis is key in beating cancer. At Doctors Hospital, we utilize the latest technology to detect abnormal cells and accurately determine the type and stage of cancer so that the right treatment can begin as soon as possible. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians uses a wide variety of diagnostic tests, including PET/CT when appropriate, and then carefully reviews the results to determine the most effective form of treatment.

In the Women’s Diagnostic Center, ladies experience a comfortable, private atmosphere where we utilize tests that have become the gold standard for detecting breast cancer such as digital mammography, breast ultrasound, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and minimally invasive breast biopsies using the Mammotome® system. Recognizing that women are extremely busy, the friendly staff in the center is focused on convenience as well as care-ensuring that routine mammograms are done in the quickest and most efficient manner.

Diagnostic Services

Accredited by both the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), the Center is staffed by professional Mammographers - each certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), we also offer surgical specialists and board certified radiologists. Exams and procedures at the Women’s Diagnostic Center include:

CAD Mammography

Computer assisted x-ray of the breast that equips the radiologist with the best information by marking suspicious areas in the breast tissue, reducing the risk of overlooking even the smallest changes.

Breast Ultrasound

A more detailed exam used to evaluate a lump felt in the breast or an abnormality seen on a mammogram. A small, hand-held scanner which emits sound waves is placed over the area, producing a picture onscreen. This painless exam helps the radiologist determine if biopsy is needed.

Breast Biopsy

Designed to determine if a breast lump is cancerous, this procedure involves taking sample tissue from the suspicious area. Your physician will choose to perform a needle biopsy, a stereotactic (x-ray guided) needle biopsy, or an ultrasound guided biopsy depending on the type of breast abnormality.

Digital Mammography

The Women’s Diagnostic Center offers digital mammography — the latest technology used to diagnose breast cancer. The Senographe® DS full-field digital mammography system provides outstanding image quality and clear, highly detailed images of the breast, enabling physicians to detect and diagnose breast cancer with confidence. This system offers mammograms in a faster, easier and more comfortable manner than before.

Mammotome with Ultrasound

The newest minimally invasive breast biopsy system used for gently vacuuming away benign fibroadenomas through a tiny ¼ inch incision. Mammotome usually precludes traditional open surgery and thus minimizes both recovery time and scarring.

If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, the staff at the Women’s Diagnostic center will provide you with support and assist with getting an appointment with a surgical specialist within 24 hours.

In the Lung Cancer Center, board-certified pulmonologists utilize leading edge technology that enables them to reach small lesions deep in the lung which cannot be accessed by traditional bronchoscopes. This tool, called the superDimension iLogic System, uses GPS-like technology to create a 3D virtual roadmap to the suspicious spot so that it can be safely and less invasively biopsied to ensure accurate diagnosis. If the area is determined to be cancerous, radiological markers can be placed around the tumor to enhance precision when aiming high doses of radiation at the spot. This helps to preserve healthy lung tissue while destroying the tumor. This minimally invasive procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.
