Diagnostic medical imaging in Augusta, Georgia

The diagnostic imaging department at Doctors Hospital of Augusta is a regional leader in non-invasive procedures. We provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic and imaging services that help us form accurate diagnoses for our patients.

We prioritize comfort and ensure every patient has the information they need to come prepared for their exam. We also perform minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopies, in addition to diagnostic tests to ensure we find the root cause of a condition.

Full-service imaging center

Our patients have access to an array of diagnostic imaging services, including:

  • Barium enema (uses X-ray and nuclear medicine techniques to capture images of the colon)
  • Bone densitometry, or dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans (uses X-rays to measure bone density)
  • Cardiac imaging and cardiopulmonary testing, including:
    • Cardiopulmonary exercise testing or CPET (analyzes cardiac and pulmonary function during exercise)
    • Echocardiogram (specialized ultrasound to visualize the heart's movement)
    • Electrocardiogram (measures electrical activity in the heart)
    • Holter monitoring (continuously records the heart's electrical activity for a prolonged time period)
    • Pulmonary function testing (measures the efficiency of the lungs)
  • Computerized tomography (CT) scans (combines multiple X-rays taken from different angles, allowing for a highly detailed view inside the body)
  • Digital mammograms (uses X-ray imaging and computer technology to generate highly detailed images of the breast)
  • Electroencephalogram, or EEG (neurological imaging to record brain wave activity)
  • Endoscopy services (uses a long, thin tube for the internal visualization of organs and structures)
  • Intravenous pyelogram, or IVP (uses X-ray technology and a contrast agent to view urinary organs)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI (uses strong magnetic fields to generate images of bodily structures, tissues and functions)
  • Nuclear medicine (uses a radiotracer with very small amounts of radioactive material and advanced imaging technology to visualize the function and structure of organs)
  • Positron emission tomography (PET)/CT scans (uses nuclear medicine to assess an organ's structure and function)
  • Ultrasounds (uses high-frequency sound waves that bounce off structures in the body to create an image)
  • Upper gastrointestinal (GI) series (uses a contrast agent to visualize the upper GI tract via X-ray)
  • X-rays (uses a small amount of radiation to produce images of bodily structures)

More than an imaging procedure may be needed to form a diagnosis. That's why, in addition to diagnostic imaging, we have an on-site full-service diagnostic laboratory where patients can go for lab work (such as blood draws and urinalysis).

Dedicated women's imaging center

The Women's Diagnostic Center is committed to excellence in breast imaging and the early detection of breast cancer. In addition to mammography services, we offer screenings for osteoporosis. Our dedicated imaging center offers:

  • Bone densitometry
  • Breast MRI
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Digital mammograms

Gastrointestinal diagnosis through endoscopy

When traditional imaging is not enough to confirm a diagnosis, your doctor may suggest a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure. Endoscopies can be helpful in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. An endoscope uses a long, thin tube with a camera attached. It is inserted into the body to gain an internal view of the digestive organs.
